# Enable Ecombe Analytics

This guide walks you through how to set up and connect Google Analytics with Ecombe. By integrating Google Analytics, you can track page performance, enable accurate A/B testing results, and access detailed page analytics. Follow this setup to ensure all visitor data is captured correctly and your optimization tools work as expected.

## Google Analytic, what’s that?

**Google Analytics** is a web analytics tool developed by Google. It allows store owners to monitor website traffic and user behavior across their site. Key metrics include pageviews, sessions, bounce rate, traffic sources, device types, and more.

For Shopify users, connecting Google Analytics helps clarify how visitors interact with your store. Where they come from, what pages they visit, and how they convert. This data is foundational for making informed decisions about marketing, layout, and content performance.

## Why Do I Need Google Analytics?

When you set up Google Analytics, a tracking tag is added to your website. This tag collects data each time someone visits your site or performs an action (such as clicking a button or making a purchase). These interactions are recorded as “events” in Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the newest version of the platform.

If you are building your store with Ecombe, you may be customizing layouts, running A/B tests, or optimizing your product pages. Google Analytics supports this process by providing measurable insights into how users engage with each version of your designs.

## How to Set Up Google Analytics (GA4) for Your Shopify Store

### Step 1: Create a Google Account

To use Google Analytics, you need a Google account. If you already have one, you can skip this step. However, we recommend creating a dedicated account specifically for tracking and analytics to keep everything organized.

If you don’t have an account yet:

* Visit: [**accounts.google.com/signup**](https://accounts.google.com/signup)
* Enter your information to create a new account

### Step 2: Create a Google Analytics Account

* Visit [**analytics.google.com**](https://analytics.google.com)
* Sign in with your Google account
* Click **Start Measuring**
* In the account setup screen:

 **Enter an account name** (e.g., “My Shopify Store Analytics”).\
 You can leave the data-sharing settings as default or adjust them based on your store’s privacy policy.

 Click **Next** to continue.

### Step 3: Create a GA4 Property

In Google Analytics, a **property** represents a specific digital asset you want to track—this could be a website, mobile app, blog, or any digital product. Each property gets its own **unique tracking ID**.

You would create a **separate property** for each to ensure data is collected independently. This way, you can track performance, user behavior, and conversions for each store without any overlap.

2. Set your reporting time zone (important for daily analytics)

We recommend Drive sales

Because Shopify is an eCommerce platform, your main goals are to:

* Track revenue
* Track the customer purchase journey
* Track add-to-cart, begin checkout, and purchase events
* Optimize your conversion rate

GA4 will also recommend several eCommerce-specific reports when you select this objective.

{% endstep %}

## How to Verify Your Setup Is Working

After completing the configuration, you can verify that Ecombe has successfully connected to the correct Account, Property, and Data Stream by clicking **View GA connections**.

The system will display your **Connection history**.

Check the latest connection entry — if it shows the **Connected** tag, Ecombe is successfully linked to your Google Analytics account.

## Frequently Asked Questions

#### **Why do I need to connect Google Analytics to my store?**

Ecombe relies on tracking data collected by Google Analytics to calculate page performance, run A/B testing, and generate analytics reports. Without this connection, Ecombe cannot track user behavior or provide accurate insights.

#### **Does Ecombe collect my sales or personal data?**

No. Ecombe does **not** collect sales data, customer personal information, or order details.\
Ecombe only uses behavioral tracking data already collected by Google Analytics (such as page views, clicks, scrolls) to generate analytics and testing results.

#### **I connected Google Analytics to Ecombe, but I’m not seeing any data. What should I do?**

If you have connected successfully but no data is appearing:

* GA4 may take **up to 24 hours** to begin recording data.
* Ensure your **tracking tag is properly installed** on all pages.
* Confirm you selected the **correct GA4 property and data stream** during setup.
* Check whether Google Analytics is receiving any traffic by using **Realtime reports**.

If you still don’t receive data, please [contact our support team](/getting-started/setup-and-quick-start/contact-support.md) for assistance.
